Alternative Ways to Meditate
While many people choose to meditate in more traditional ways of sitting quietly with your eyes closed, that is definitely not the only option. There are a few different alternative ways to meditate that allow you to get the same benefits but in some different scenarios.
Breathing Exercises
The great thing about meditation is that you can do it anywhere and in just about any situation simple by practicing your breathing. This is what you do in the beginning of meditation, as it is what helps you get in the right frame of mind. Just breathing exercises can clear your mind, bring in positive energy, and re-focus your thoughts to something simple. It is also really great when you are practicing mindfulness.
Listening to Music
You can also get into a different method of meditating by listening to music. Different styles of music will help you achieve different results. Try laying on your bed while listening to soft, relaxing music with your headphones, and close your eyes. Just experience the sounds you hear and what emotions you get while listening to the music.
Let yourself drown into the instrumentals. You can then do this same thing while listening to something different, perhaps rock or something with lyrics. Notice how it is different and how meditation can change depending on your surroundings.
Swimming
Both swimming and surfing provide opportunities for you to meditate without having to sit at home or be in a closed off, quiet space. If you are a fan of swimming, you can swim laps and really get a lot of benefits from it. Swimming alone provides an environment that is soothing and lets you think to yourself, especially during lap swimming when you’re alone and without a lot of other distractions. It is a combination of the water, sunshine, and being in a tranquil environment that makes it so beneficial to your mind.
Relaxing Fitness Meditation
Other types of fitness also provide meditation environments when you don’t want to just sit with your eyes closed. From tai chi to running, you can clear your mind and even practice mindfulness while performing these activities. It is a different type of meditation, but one that brings a lot of clarity and self-awareness to an otherwise regular daily activity. Challenge yourself to try new forms of fitness and see how your mind responds to it, not just your body.
