A not so long time ago 40 was almost ancient. With the advances in modern technology and medicine 40 is not that old. But with age does come wisdom. Here are some of them many things that you should celebrate about turning 40.

You Start to Know Who You Are

Around age 40 you start to get rid of the extreme drive to be validated by other people. Health.com calls this existential dread. Around age 40, you start to really know what you’re good at and what you are not. You also stop trying to be someone you’re not. At 40, really begin to own who you are and love it.

Your Resilient

After turning 40, you start to realize that nothing is the end of the world. Situations that would’ve seemed like absolute disasters are now manageable. At this point in your life, you understand you always have a plan B. If Plan B doesn’t work out, you have the rest of the alphabet. Being resilient in the face of adversity is one of the best things about turning 40.

Think about an instance that you thought was going to be life ending, was it? This simple exercise can show you exactly how resilient you are.

You Accept Help

If there is one thing that 40 years on earth it’s taught you it’s that you cannot handle everything all on your own. Unlike 20-year-old you, 40-year-old view has no problem asking for help when they need it. This is an amazing and freeing feeling. Not having to do everything all by yourself is what prevention.com says is the best part about being 40. You will no longer throw your back out lifting a box you are “too stubborn” to get help with; or miss a deadline because you can’t admit that you need help. Celebrate being 40 because now you’re old enough to know exactly when you need a helping hand.

You Don’t Feel Bad Saying No

Whether it’s a social situation, or a work thing, saying no is something that you are no longer afraid to do. The social pressures at work can be difficult to manage and that doesn’t even include social pressure from your friends or family. However, once you hit 40 you start to realize that a night at home watching Netflix may be more important than going out to socialize. Saying no isn’t so hard. This is probably the absolute best thing about turning 40, you figured out people who are toxic and how to avoid them. You know who your friends are and who the drama makers are. This lets you get rid of drama forever. Whether you’re getting out of a toxic relationship, breaking it off with your nasty boss, or separating yourself from the office gossip; 40 lets you drop the drama forever. Life Hack notes that by the time your 40 you’ll recognize people who are negative faster than you’ve ever been able to before.

For these reasons, 40 rocks. We don’t have to live in fear of turning 40 because it’s no longer a death sentence. All the amazing social acuity that you are screw at 40 beats having no crow’s feet. Moreover, you now know exactly how amazing you are.

Having confidence and lacking drama are two reasons why most people probably can’t wait to turn 40. Confidence beats tan lines and late-night parties any day of the week. Therefore, whether you’ve just turned 40 or headed there shortly you’ve got a lot to celebrate.
