The Organic Diet Approach to Alleviating Arthritis Symptoms and the Best Food Choices

Diet alone cannot cure arthritis, however, there are organic foods you can eat that will strengthen the immune system, fight inflammation and gain bone mass.

Here are some organically grown foods to consider when you have arthritis:

• Fish

Freshly caught tuna, herring, or mackerel. These are fatty fish that contain omega 3 fatty acids, which fight inflammation. Try eating a meal of fish at least twice weekly. This tends to work best for rheumatoid arthritis.

• Soy products

Organically grown soybeans or their products like edamame and tofu are also high in omega 3 fatty acids. Soybean products are healthy for you and help you fight the inflammation of rheumatoid arthritis.

• Cherries

Cherries contain anthocyanins, which fight inflammation. You can also find anthocyanins in strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. They tend to ease the inflammation seen in gouty arthritis. Eat the whole fruit and not juices, expect for tart cherry juice with no sugar added.

• Extra virgin olive oil

This is about the healthiest oil you can consume. It contains fats that are good for your heart as well as oleocanthal, which relieves pain and inflammation. You can also use walnut oil, avocado oil and safflower oil for the management of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

• Dairy products

Dairy products that come from cows raised organically have a great deal of vitamin D and calcium in them so your bony strength can be maintained. Vitamin D also helps your immune system. Get these items in leafy green vegetables if you are lactose intolerant and use these products for the management of osteoarthritis and osteoporosis.

• Broccoli

Broccoli is high in vitamin C and vitamin K. It also contains Sulforaphane, which has been found to slow the progression of diseases like osteoarthritis. Broccoli also contains a great deal of calcium that can help you build backbone strength and prevent its loss.

• Green tea

This is a tea made from the young parts of tea leaves. It contains antioxidants that can fight inflammation. It also contains polyphenols that help reduce joint damage in those who are suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. It also helps those with osteoarthritis.

• Citrus

Any kind of citrus fruit, like lemons, limes, oranges, and grapefruits contain a lot of vitamin C in them that can fight inflammation seen in osteoarthritis and other inflammatory arthritis situations. Use citrus fruits for the management of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

• Beans

These are loaded with fiber and helps lower CRP levels in the body. The protein content alone is good for maximizing muscle growth, which in turn supports the joints. Beans, such as red beans, pinto beans, and kidney beans, tend to be high in magnesium, zinc, folate, potassium, and iron, which benefit the immune system. Beans are good for those who have rheumatoid arthritis especially.

• Whole grains

Organically grown whole grain foods will lower the level of C-reactive protein in the blood. C-reactive protein is an inflammation marker that is elevated in rheumatoid arthritis patients (as well as in those with diabetes and heart disease). Eat oatmeal, whole-grain cereals, and brown rice to fight rheumatoid arthritis.

• Garlic and onions

Garlic, leeks, and onions are all from the allium family of foods. They seem to fight pain seen in osteoarthritis. Garlic contains diallyl disulphine that fights enzymes that would otherwise damage cartilage.

• Nuts

All nuts contain calcium, magnesium, protein, zinc, fiber, vitamin E, and alpha linolenic acid. Alpha linolenic acid helps improve the immune system for the management of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Just about any kind of nut is good but especially pine nuts, pistachio nuts, almonds, and walnuts.
