When most people think of marshmallow, they’re probably thinking of the sugar spun treat that is a popular feature at campfires, especially S’mores. What many people don’t know is that the plants of the same name from which marshmallows are made, is an extremely versatile and useful plant that can offer people a lot of health benefits. In ancient times marshmallow root was used to concoct all sorts of elixirs and soothing balms. In the past, marshmallow brought a better quality of life to humans, but today many of these uses are not as widely practiced, so this article will be sharing a few ways to use marshmallow root.

Marshmallow Lip Balm

Freshly made lip balms are pretty much always a great idea. They make great gifts for loved ones and are substantially better for your body. To make this recipe properly, it is a good idea to take some time to use a heated infusion method to create marshmallow root oil. One simple way that this can be done is it simply take dried marshmallow root and drop it into some sunflower oil on a low heat. Take 4 tablespoons of the marshmallow root infused oil, 3 tablespoons of coconut oil, 3 tablespoons of beeswax, and place everything into a double boiler on a medium low setting until all the contents of melted. Gather whatever receptacles you wished use, and carefully fill them while the mixture is still warm and liquid.

Marshmallow Mask

A face mask is great for your skin and can be very relaxing. To make this recipe you should set aside 1 ounce marshmallow root powder, a half ounce of pink clay, 1/4 oz of dried and ground rose petals (should be organic), cold pressed rosehip oil, and some peppermint essential oil. Take the dry ingredients and mix them evenly in a large bowl.

As you mix these ingredients, start to add your rosehip oil. Once the mixture begins to take on a more pliable consistency, then it has reached the desired thickness. You might want to set up small receptacles so that you can proportion your mix and add two drops of peppermint essential oil to each serving. Carefully spread the mixture around your cleansed face, being careful to avoid getting it in your eyes. Leave the mixture on for 10 to 20 minutes. After the time is up, you can feel free to rinse off the mask and enjoy your freshly treated skin.

DIY Healthy Marshmallows

All you need for this amazing recipe is 2 teaspoons of vanilla paste, two cups of agave nectar, 12 tablespoons of room temperature water, 6 tablespoons of unflavored gelatin, a teaspoon of salt, Marshmallow root powder, and a candy thermometer. Grease a midsize pan. Use a large electric mixer bowl with a with a whisk and add your water and gelatin. Simmer your agave nectar, being sure to remove it from the heat when it reaches 230 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the mixture on a slow setting, and pour in the syrup while it is still hot in the stove.

Whip the mixture until it is very thick and shiny. Place the vanilla paste in the mixture along with the salt and continue beating for another minute or so. Once a minute is up, quickly remove the contents of the bowl and place the combined ingredients into the pan and sprinkle the top with marshmallow root powder. Let the pan sit for at least 5 hours. Once it has become solid, flip the pan, and you have your own fresh homemade marshmallows.
