Activated charcoal might not seem like it would help your skin, but it is actually wonderful to use. This is a trending natural product that you might see in everything from cleansers to face masks. Here are some different ways you can use charcoal for natural beauty.

The first benefit to using activated charcoal is to reduce the size of your pores. Who doesn’t want smaller pores? Pores appear larger because they get clogged with dirt, bacteria, toxins, and dead skin cells that have not been exfoliating in a while. You can reduce the appearance of pores on your skin and clear up your complexion by using the charcoal as an exfoliating scrub on your skin. Combine the charcoal with a natural oil of your choosing, scrub your skin, then rinse with cool water.
If you have been struggling with oily skin, activated charcoal can be what rescues it. The powdered charcoal is going to help balance out the extra oils on your skin, without it looking too dry. There are a couple ways to do this, from using it as a facial wash or a mask. The facial wash will work similar to when reducing your pores, by using it as an exfoliator. However, you can also create a mask with the activated charcoal and oils to make a mask, leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse off.
Charcoal is also great when you have any type of skin irritation. It might be irritated from a skin condition, bite or sting, or even a cut on the skin. While you should be careful to use it with deep cuts, minor irritations are fine to use the activated charcoal on. You can make a paste by using the charcoal and a little water or some oils like jojoba or coconut oil. Apply the paste to the affected area and let it sit in for a few minutes before rinsing. When adding in the water to the charcoal, do so slowly until you have the right consistency.
Try using activated charcoal on your skin by making any of these natural DIY products at home. You can also find activated charcoal masks and scrubs that are in the package and use only natural ingredients, but don’t have to be made on your own. These can add some convenience while also getting the benefits of the charcoal.
