What are fleas and what are their signs?

There are approximately 2000 species and subspecies of fleas that exist around the world. Many animals are threatened with fleas, especially your pets. They usually live on warm and humid areas on your pet and they feed on the blood.

What is a flea?

It is a tiny pest which is 1 to 3 mm long. They are spontaneous, run and hide, they are quick to move and jump easily.

Puppies are endangered by the fleas because they suck more than 15 times their own weight in blood. Soon the puppies became anemic because of the blood loss. Some show signs of being parasitic anemic which includes paling of gums, fall of body temperature and being lethargic.

Some dogs are sensitive to the saliva of the flea and develop a rash. They become allergic by just one bite of the flea. The pet feels itching and is continuously uncomfortable. The signs of the flea biting are:

  • reddish skin
  • loss of hair
  • and hot spots

If the pet is not treated, the allergy later causes skin infections.
