Sleep is a precious thing and something that too many of us don’t get enough of as insomnia affects 10 to 30% of all adults in varying degrees. To sleep better try eating these 9 organic foods for better sleep!

1. Turkey

Free range or wild turkey is organic and high in L-tryptophan, which is a natural sleep-inducer.

2. Fish

Farm raised fatty fish, such as tuna, halibut and salmon are high in vitamin B6 that produces melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep signals

3. Cherry Juice

Tart cherry juice also contains melatonin and chronic insomnia sufferers who drink it have fewer episodes of sleepless nights

4. Jasmine Rice

Jasmine rice promotes insulin release to increase L-tryptophan in the bloodstream. Eat it for supper to get sleepy and sleep tight!

5. Organic Dairy

Organic dairy comes from pasture grazing cows, like me, that are fed organic feed, raised without antibiotics or endocrine disrupting chemicals such as hormones and steroids and have more heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids than conventional dairy.

6. Yogurt/Milk

Yogurt and milk are high in calcium and evidence shows people who don’t get enough calcium are prone to sleep problems PLUS milk also contains L-tryptophan that promotes sleep

7. Kale

Organic kale and spinach are high in calcium and other key nutrients that will increase the amount of calcium in your body so you sleep better and for longer periods of time.

8. Lemon Balm

Lemon balm is an herbal and all natural member of the mint family and has been used for ages to induce sleep and is even more effective in combination with the valerian herb. Make a tea by steeping 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried lemon balm and 1 teaspoon of valerian root in a cup of hot water for 5 to 10 minutes

9. Chamomile

Chamomile is another herb that has been used for insomnia for thousands of years and has been shown in studies to reduce mild cases of anxiety. Make a tea from dried chamomile leaves or purchase ready made organic chamomile teas at a health food store.

Toxins used to grow conventional bananas leach into the soil where they are grown, so even when peeled, you can still ingest some pesticides. Organic bananas are high in potassium and vitamin B6. B6 makes melatonin, a compound that supports healthy sleep, and since melatonin is released in a circadian pattern, you can enjoy bananas during the day and benefit from the B6 boost for those sleepless nights.

These are just some of the great organic foods that contain calcium, magnesium, tryptophan, and vitamin B6 to ensure that the body and brain has the basic nutrients necessary to get a restful night’s sleep.

And, don’t forget that all of us offer you other essential nutrients that your body needs for optimal health and wellness!!

Thanks for watching and take care!
